Psalm 48:1-3,8-11,14

1  Great is the LORD, and most worthy of praise, in the city of our God, his holy mountain.

2  Beautiful in its loftiness, the joy of the whole earth, like the heights of Zaphon [  is Mount Zion, the city of the Great King.

3  God is in her citadels; he has shown himself to be her fortress.

8  As we have heard, so we have seen in the city of the LORD Almighty, in the city of our God: God makes her secure forever. [c]

9  Within your temple, O God, we meditate on your unfailing love.

10  Like your name, O God, your praise reaches to the ends of the earth; your right hand is filled with righteousness.

11  Mount Zion rejoices, the villages of Judah are glad because of your judgments.

14  For this God is our God for ever and ever; he will be our guide even to the end.

Prayer

Almighty God, our Heavenly Father, great are You Lord and most worthy of praise. You clothed Your servants the robe of righteousness that we may join the morning court bow down to worship and praise Your name forever. Forgive us for not taking care of the city of life that You gave us. We go on with our sinful ways, doing injustice, and living ungodly life styles; all that lead to destruction of our bodies, minds, and spirits. We repent and hand over the city of life to You. From now on we place our trust in You and ask that You be our fortress, keeping us safe and helping us rebuild ourselves.

Our savior, Lord Jesus. You were pierced for our transgressions, crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on You, and by Your wounds we are healed. You understand the trauma we are going through with the raging coronavirus pandemic, the social unrest, political turmoil, and living an unstable daily life. After months of social distancing, businesses shut down and stay-at-home restrictions we starting to feel stuck. The impact of COVID-19 pandemic has debilitating effects on us and we feel overwhelmingly helpless. May you end this pandemic in Your mercy so that we can return to our former freedoms and social connections with friends and family.

Holy Spirit, our body is Your temple. We have strength and power to stand firm in trials because You dwell in us. May you fortify our bodies, minds and souls and keep us in good health that we may continue to proclaim God’s word and build up the body of Christ. Let us reassemble at church with fellow Christians to sing praises and be witnesses of God’s love and salvation.

In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
