Psalm 129:1-8

1  “They have greatly oppressed me from my youth,” let Israel say;

2  “they have greatly oppressed me from my youth, but they have not gained the victory over me.

3  Plowmen have plowed my back and made their furrows long.

4  But the LORD is righteous; he has cut me free from the cords of the wicked.”

5  May all who hate Zion be turned back in shame.

6  May they be like grass on the roof, which withers before it can grow;

7  a reaper cannot fill his hands with it, nor one who gathers fill his arms.

8  May those who pass by not say to them,“The blessing of the LORD be on you; we bless you in the name of the LORD.”

Prayer

Praise be to the everlasting Father, Eternal God. Thank you for the bright morning light to guide our way. May the radiance of your glory fill our hearts. You always have your eyes on us and You see what many of us children are going through: suffering brought on by coronavirus, physical illnesses, difficult family relationship, things not going well, or social instability. All these things make us feel as though the plowmen have plowed upon our backs and made their furrows long.

Lord Jesus, may You reach out your mighty hand and touch our wounds. Heal and restore our body, mind, and soul. We will sing to You with joy and jubilation. May the power of your resurrection sever the cords of all unbelief, doubt, bitterness, and grievance that bind us. Help us to forget what is behind and do our best to reach what is ahead.

Holy Spirit, walk with us to overcome obstacles in the roads ahead. Help us to look beyond the social issues today. The injustice and economic downturn are like grass growing on rooftop of a house; they are thinly spread, have shallow roots and wither quickly. Lord, help us to focus on You. All you say can be

trusted; your teachings are true and will last forever.

We pray in Jesus Christ’s name. Amen!
