Psalm 10: 1-2, 12-18

1 Why, Lord, do you stand far off? Why do you hide yourself in times of trouble?

2 In his arrogance the wicked man hunts down the weak, who are caught in the schemes he devises.

12 Arise, Lord! Lift up your hand, O God. Do not forget the helpless.

13 Why does the wicked man revile God? Why does he say to himself, “He won’t call me to account”?

14 But you, God, see the trouble of the afflicted; you consider their grief and take it in hand. The victims commit themselves to you; you are the helper of the fatherless.

15 Break the arm of the wicked man; call the evildoer to account for his wickedness that would not otherwise be found out.

16 The Lord is King for ever and ever; the nations will perish from his land.

17 You, Lord, hear the desire of the afflicted; you encourage them, and you listen to their cry,

18 defending the fatherless and the oppressed, so that mere earthly mortals will never again strike terror.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, we waddle around like babies learning how to walk and when we fall, we complain that You stand too far to help us. Lord, forgive us for praying with eyes full of tears and revealing deep hatred and sorrows in our hearts. Forgive us the way we confess seems like we are grumbling.

Lord, you told us If we are tired from carrying heavy burdens, we can come to You. You understand our pain and suffering, the stress from the acceleration of the pandemic, the prevalence of unlawful and unjust incidents, the arrogant lies, and the decline of our physical ability. All these things are like sand and sediments accumulated inside the spillway of the dam of life. The spillway represents our minds, which is obstructed and its capacity is reduced. When heavy rains come, water crest over the dam surfaces and pour over the obstructed spillway. This resulted in flooding in the surrounding areas due to overflow of dam and spillway deficiency.

Holy Spirit, help us to clear the debris and silt in our spillway with the word of truth in the Bible. We pray that You would tame our tongues so that no cursing or corrupt words come out of our mouths, forbid evil intention enters our hearts and thoughts, guard our minds so that our characters are not degraded by arrogant and haughty attitudes, cleanse our subconscious minds so that our deeds are not tainted by resentment and bitterness. Above everything else, guard each heart of ours for it is the source of life. Lord, what we think is what we are, help us to think the same way that Christ Jesus thought.

In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ we pray. Amen.
