Proverbs 27: 3-6, 15, 17, 21, 23

3  Stone is heavy and sand a burden, but a fool’s provocation is heavier than both.

4  Anger is cruel and fury overwhelming, but who can stand before jealousy?

5  Better is open rebuke than hidden love.

6  Wounds from a friend can be trusted, but an enemy multiplies kisses.

15  A quarrelsome wife is like the dripping of a leaky roof in a rainstorm;

17  As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.

21  The crucible for silver and the furnace for gold, but people are tested by their praise.

23  Be sure you know the condition of your flocks, give careful attention to your herds;

Prayer

The Lord who owns history, our Father in heaven, we thank you. Although our lives are like a cloud, exist only temporarily then vanish; you still give us a new day every morning. We take advantage of this new day and kneel before you early in the morning, dedicating the day to you. May we seek your will, explore and understand your plan, keep your commandments wholeheartedly, and walk faithfully in the light; so that our light can shine before people. When others see our good deeds, they will give glory to you, our Heavenly Father.

Neither the pandemic, uncertain political environment, trouble, hardship, persecution, danger, nor anything else will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Lord Jesus, thank you for being our good friend. Surely you took up our pain and bore our suffering. You were pierced for our transgressions, you were crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on you, and by your wounds we are healed. You let the alabaster jar shatter and let fragrance flow from your feet, reminding us the meaning of our lives! “Olives that have known no pressure, never can oil bestow; if the grapes escape the winepress, cheering wine can never flow; spikenard only through the crushing, its fragrance can diffuse.” We pray earnestly that when we face adversity, tribulation and trials, when the alabaster jar of our soul is broken, may the fragrance spread out widely. It is because we firmly believe that your purpose for our pruning is to make us bear more fruit.

Holy Spirit, you are full of wisdom and power. Please be the master of our body, mind and spirit. Please guard our thoughts, take away our persistent view of dissatisfaction and rid our hearts of the weed of complaints. Do not allow any jealousy to contaminate our hearts or any anger to blur our judgement. Help us to have self-control so we will not cause harm to others by any hasty words or action. Otherwise, discourse and fights will be ignited everywhere, like rampant wildfires totally out of control. Holy Spirit, you are good. At this time of pandemic and disasters, please come and light our lives with fire of love so that the cold hearts will regain warmth and become fervent in serving the Lord. Grind the wheat of our lives and make into bread to feed the hungry. Help us to unload our worldly concerns that we hoarded in our hearts because of fear in order to make room in our lives to live for the Lord.
