Proverbs 25: 4, 11, 13, 15, 18, 21-22, 24, 28

4  Remove the dross from the silver, and a silversmith can produce a vessel;

11  Like apples [b]  of gold in settings of silver is a ruling rightly given.

13  Like a snow-cooled drink at harvest time is a trustworthy messenger to the one who sends him; he refreshes the spirit of his master.

15  Through patience a ruler can be persuaded, and a gentle tongue can break a bone.

18  Like a club or a sword or a sharp arrow is one who gives false testimony against a neighbor.

21  If your enemy is hungry, give him food to eat; if he is thirsty, give him water to drink.

22  In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head, and the LORD will reward you.

24  Better to live on a corner of the roof than share a house with a quarrelsome wife.

28  Like a city whose walls are broken through is a person who lacks self-control.

Prayer

Our Father in heaven, you are our creator who gave us wisdom and discernment to know right from wrong. Your mind cannot be fathomed and your mind cannot be known. However, through the Lord Jesus, all causes are revealed in Him and we come to understand the mystery of the Truth that allows us to gain freedom. Please forbid us to end up in destruction because of our arrogance or willful slander. Give us a heart of humility and self-control so we can speak with care and consideration. By doing so, those who hear us can be encouraged and comforted; those who have gone astray can return to the path of righteousness.

Thank you, Lord Jesus for leaving us beautiful footprints to follow. You endured all hardship put upon you by the ignorant. You are gentle and humble in heart. Please help us to take up our cross and follow you, help us to take your yoke upon us and learn from you; so we can find rest for our souls, minds and bodies. Lord Jesus, we need you. Especially in this difficult time of the pandemic and ensuing confusion, we are like sitting among the ashes, in a depthless pool or even heavily chained by shackles and are unable to get out of the predicament. Please help us to lay down all the burdens, rest in your arms and entrust ourselves to you again; so that our eyes will once again focus solely on you and look up to your cross.

Holy Spirit, please come to discipline our hearts: guard our mouth to avoid rash words, calm our distress and anger; so as not to cause quarrels and make people anxious. Discipline us so we can produce a harvest of peace. Teach us to strengthen our feeble arms and weak knees, make level path for our feet; so that we, the lame, may not be disabled but rather healed. Holy Spirit, please remind us to stay away from evil, to make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; for without holiness no one will see the Lord. We can then become faithful disciples and know how to accompany the heart-broken through the road of distress with comfort and compassion.

We pray in the holy name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen!
