Psalm 82: 1-5, 8

1  God presides in the great assembly; he renders judgment among the “gods”:

2  “How long will you [a]  defend the unjust  and show partiality to the wicked? [b]

3  Defend the weak and the fatherless;  uphold the cause of the poor and the oppressed.

4  Rescue the weak and the needy;  deliver them from the hand of the wicked.

5  “The ‘gods’ know nothing, they understand nothing. They walk about in darkness; all the foundations of the earth are shaken.

8  Rise up, O God, judge the earth, for all the nations are your inheritance.

Prayer

God, the Father who judges the world righteously. We kneel in awe before You this morning and praise Your holy name. Whom do we have in heaven but You? We desire nothing on this earth. If the Lord has not will edit, we would not be here today. Not a single strand of our hair would fall if the Lord does not permit it. Your heart is especially sensitive to the poor and needy and Your eyes will not turn away from the helpless and oppressed. We are struggling with the COVID 19 pandemic for a long time, our bodies, minds and spirit are eager for Your healing. May the prayers from Christians all around the world move you to lead us out of this dark valley.

Jesus, the sovereign Lord, king of kings, and Lord of lords. You teach us to be concerned above everything else with the Kingdom of God and with what You require of us, and You will provide us with all these other things. We are unable to overcome the difficulties we are facing today and need You to uphold us. Forgive us for succumbing to the temptation of power, wealth, fame, and status. We have fallen and lost our way and we are too weak to stand up. Lord, help us and redirect us so we will not continue to wander in the dark. Give us strength to get up from where we fall, forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead without the support of applause.

The foundation of the earth is shaking! Before the great and the terrible day of the Lord come, Holy Spirit, come and fill us. Anoint the children of our next generation with oil, so that they will be empowered to respond to Your calling. Send out warning and prophetic messages to declare what will happen in the future. Set the hearts of the elders ablaze to serve the Lord so that they continue to plow the field of gospel and welcome the Lord’s return there. May the young successors of the gospel of Christ cultivate a heart of biblical discernment to know the truth that Christ speak of, live in the spirit and train for godliness, experience the power of prayers, keep themselves in the love of God, stay away from sin and awake to righteousness, seek the Lord’s mercy, and hold on to God’s vision for missions.
