Psalm 79: 5, 8-9, 11, 13

5  How long, LORD? Will you be angry forever? How long will your jealousy burn like fire?

8  Do not hold against us the sins of past generations; may your mercy come quickly to meet us, for we are in desperate need.

9  Help us, God our Savior, for the glory of your name;

deliver us and forgive our sins for your name’s sake.

11  May the groans of the prisoners come before you; with your strong arm preserve those condemned to die.

13  Then we your people, the sheep of your pasture, will praise you forever; from generation to generation we will proclaim your praise.

Prayer

Our Heavenly Father, Lord, Hallowed be Your name. Thank you that the tranquil morning breeze brought consciousness to the surface of our minds after a night of dreamless sleep. We give You praise even though the hazy fog keeps us from seeing anything outside the windows: you let us know that a crisp autumn morning has arrived. We are Your people, the sheep of Your pasture. With body, mind, and soul we bow before you. Our souls glorify You and our spirits rejoice in You as we start a new day.

Lord Jesus, You came to this world to save sinners and we are the worst of them all. Yet You are patient with us and have mercy on us. Forgive us for taking Your name in vain and use it in a worthless manner. We have not set a good example in our lives before others. Our mirror of life is covered with colorful paints of the world and there is no room to reflect the image of Christ. We are more pathetic than a piece of log or a stone because we can be split or crumbled with one big strike and stop functioning.

Holy Spirit, You testify with our spirit that we are God's children. In the midst of the severe oppression of the coronavirus pandemic, we pleaded for Your spiritual fire to come, the spiritual wind to blow, and the spiritual rain to fall but You are silent. Yet we feel that You are here giving us protection, You are the beat of our hearts, the pulse in our veins so we will just wait quietly. We can hear faintly You pray for us to the Father with groaning that cannot be expressed in words. Send Your spiritual rain to nourish us and oil of joy to our lamps. Examine our hearts and know our thoughts. Take our cups of blessing, through our constant prayers and heartfelt gratitude let it be filled with the fruit of the spirit that can be shared with others. We know that God is always at work for the good of everyone who loves him.  You have not forsaken us but want us to wait patiently to see how You heal this land.
