Psalm 78: 1-7

1  My people, hear my teaching; listen to the words of my mouth.

2  I will open my mouth with a parable; I will utter hidden things, things from of old—

3  things we have heard and known, things our ancestors have told us.

4  We will not hide them from their descendants; we will tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the LORD, his power, and the wonders he has done.

5  He decreed statutes for Jacob and established the law in Israel, which he commanded our ancestors to teach their children,

6  so the next generation would know them, even the children yet to be born, and they in turn would tell their children.

7  Then they would put their trust in God and would not forget his deeds but would keep his commands.

Prayer

We will praise the Lord Most High, our Heavenly Father. A thick layer of fog rolled into the city and obscuring the skylines but the top of the immovable mountain is still jutting skyward out of the fog. Just as the world is shrouded by the pandemic threat yet the images of Your kindness and compassion are prominently visible. The clouds have drawn Your love, which is greater than the distance between heaven and earth, near us. Thank you for keeping our transgressions far away from us. But our callous hearts and ungrateful attitude have brought sins back to our doors. Our minds are filled with contentious thoughts, and our hearts bitterness. Curses spew from our mouths. We are no different from Your chosen people of the past, grieving you, testing you repeatedly, losing respect and despising Your sovereignty. Father, forgive us again for our inequities.

Loving Lord Jesus, take our hands and lead us into the Garden of Gethsemane in prayer. Let us empty our minds and let our spiritual lives bind with You; no longer it is an unfathomable riddle of actually seeing you and being held in Your arms. No longer that we be crying for the world or for ourselves but weeping with joy for experiencing the kisses of God. Your love inspires us. We open up our lives to welcome you as our Lord and King. Whom have we in heaven but you? And there is nothing on earth that we desire besides you. We put You first in our priorities. May You lead us through the valley of the shadow of the horrid coronavirus pandemic.

Holy Spirit, guide us to wait in silence and be still until we have been connected with You. Ignite our hearts’ lamps with pure spiritual fire. Let the light chase away the darkness that provokes God’ wrath, and let us resolve to not doing things that cause distress to God. Help our church members and leaders put on white robe of righteousness, erect an altar of prayer, cultivate and plant seeds in the community. Let us show enthusiasm and genuine warmth for the cold-hearted society, and rebuild the ruins and broken body of Christ as we wait for the return of revival rain and the rekindle of spiritual fire. May the people of the world see God’s wonderful great deeds and recognize the splendor perfect Lord from generation to generation.

We pray in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.
