Psalm 71:1, 18-20, 22-23

1  In you, LORD, I have taken refuge; let me never be put to shame.

18  Even when I am old and gray, do not forsake me, my God, till I declare your power to the next generation, your mighty acts to all who are to come.

19  Your righteousness, God, reaches to the heavens, you who have done great things. Who is like you, God?

20  Though you have made me see troubles, many and bitter, you will restore my life again; from the depths of the earth you will again bring me up.

22  I will praise you with the harp for your faithfulness, my God; I will sing praise to you with the lyre, Holy One of Israel.

23  My lips will shout for joy when I sing praise to you— I whom you have delivered.

Prayer

Lord, our rock, our fortress and our Father in Heaven, The Lord, our God is good; Your love is eternal and Your faithfulness lasts forever. Thank you for clearing the wildfire smoke this morning so we can see the rising sun in the east and the beauty of the earth again. Let Your light illuminates the darkness in our hearts, chase away all sinful thoughts, bitterness and resentment and bring fresh hope to start the day.

Lord Jesus, You left the world at the age of thirty-three but you can understand the vicissitudes of our lives. You promised that You will be our God throughout our lifetime until our hair is white with age. You will care for us and You will carry us along and save us. Because You made us, we will still bring forth fruit in old age. They will be full of sap and green. Amidst the cascading hazards of the global COVID 19 pandemic and many natural disasters, we are just insignificant in these troubling moments and undeserving of attention.

Holy Spirit, our encourager, help us to mend that which is broken in our hearts. Grant us strength to stay calm in the face of storms ahead, give us unwavering faith to wait patiently for these difficult times to pass. In the midst of the church we will praise You with the harp for Your faithfulness and proclaim Your marvelous deeds. Let us take part in the life of the church to act as witnesses of the Gospel and not bring shame on the name of the Lord.
