Psalm 114: 1-8

1  When Israel came out of Egypt, Jacob from a people of foreign tongue,

2  Judah became God’s sanctuary, Israel his dominion.

3  The sea looked and fled, the Jordan turned back;

4  the mountains leaped like rams, the hills like lambs.

5  Why was it, sea, that you fled? Why, Jordan, did you turn back?

6  Why, mountains, did you leap like rams, you hills, like lambs?

7  Tremble, earth, at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the God of Jacob,

8  who turned the rock into a pool, the hard rock into springs of water.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, God, creator of heaven and earth. We praise You for your marvelous deeds. You are a miracle working God. You told us that, “For humans this is impossible, but for God all things are possible.” With trembling awe, we come to your throne of grace. We recall what amazing guidance and comfort You have given us and we know You will guide us continually and we will not walk alone. Grant us faith and courage to start this new day.

Lord, Jesus, You calmed the raging storm. All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to You. We ask in your name to stop the epidemic that is ravaging us like billows of the Red Sea, and to end social unrest where violence surged like waves of Jordan River. Make a safe passage for us, lead us through these obstacles and out of the valley of darkness. We pray for restoration of broken interpersonal relationships that people may someday join hands with heads held high and run together on the road to heaven.

May the power of the Holy Spirit who dwells in us irrigate our tired souls with the living water of life and reinvigorate our hearts. Help us to rebuild the sanctuary of prayer, take control of our emotions, and not lose our peace and stability over social turmoil. Let us reignite our lamp of life and wait patiently for the return of the Lord.
