Psalm 109: 21-26, 30-31

21  But you, Sovereign LORD, help me for your name’s sake; out of the goodness of your love, deliver me.

22  For I am poor and needy, and my heart is wounded within me.

23  I fade away like an evening shadow; I am shaken off like a locust.

24  My knees give way from fasting; my body is thin and gaunt.

25  I am an object of scorn to my accusers; when they see me, they shake their heads.

26  Help me, LORD my God; save me according to your unfailing love.

30  With my mouth I will greatly extol the LORD; in the great throng of worshipers I will praise him.

31  For he stands at the right hand of the needy, to save their lives from those who would condemn them.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, you are the master of our lives, whom we depend on and so worthy of our praise. We see darkness enveloping the night with evil forces causing unsettling thoughts in our minds and preventing us from getting restful sleep. We can only kneel and keep praying for peace for countries that are at war, for suppressing the spread of the ravaging coronavirus, for social justice for the oppressed, and calmness among chaos. We pray that people would let go of treacherous and perverse schemes. Purge any bitterness in our hearts. When the twilight first appears in the morning, we look to you to shine the glorious light of righteousness to illuminate every dark place.

Lord Jesus, when You were on earth You were oppressed and endured physical torment and emotional trauma. You went thought intense suffering to achieve salvation. In this crooked and perverse generation, a righteous path was opened for us. Cleanse us again by the power of Jesus’ blood, that our state of mind is whiter than snow without blemish.

May the Holy Spirit work in our hearts, guide us to renew and change our minds, forbid us from whining or provoking disputes. Live a blameless and honest life so that on the day of Christ’s return, we will be proud that we did not run the race in vain and that our work was not useless. We will be like the bright sunlight illuminating the entire family.

In Jesus Christ’s name we pray. Amen.
