Proverbs 28:1,7,10,13-14,18-19,25

1 The wicked flee though no one pursues, but the righteous are as bold as a lion.

7  A discerning son heeds instruction, but a companion of gluttons disgraces his father.

10  Whoever leads the upright along an evil path will fall into their own trap, but the blameless will receive a good inheritance.

13  Whoever conceals their sins does not prosper, but the one who confesses and renounces them finds mercy.

14  Blessed is the one who always trembles before God, but whoever hardens their heart falls into trouble.

18  The one whose walk is blameless is kept safe, but the one whose ways are perverse will fall into the pit. [ b ]

19  Those who work their land will have abundant food, but those who chase fantasies will have their fill of poverty.

25  The greedy stir up conflict, but those who trust in the LORD will prosper.

Prayer

Praise to God the Father who allows us to be justified by faith. Thank you for calling us to come to you every morning to seek your will. Enlighten us with the truth so we can steer our lives through the unresolved turmoil due to the pandemic with integrity, clear conscience and unwavering faith. Like a young lion, we are fearless; because Lord, you are our strength and our salvation.

Our heavenly Father, you are full of compassion and grace. We honor and worship you wholeheartedly. Thank you for keeping us in your love, discerning the truth before us so that we can be protected by your wisdom, gain knowledge and stand firm. May the testimony of our lives bring glory and praise to you.

Lord Jesus, please save us! When we are stubborn and refuse to confess our sins, we are heavy laden with despair and grumble all the time. “The crushed spirit dries up our bones.” We are feeble and no longer can stand upright before you. Who can prosper if we are against you? When we still have the chance to seek you before disaster strikes, we come to you in prayer. Not hiding our sins anymore, we confess them all to you. May you forgive us and heal us so that we can regain joy and live a life full of hope.

Lord Jesus, may you be our example. May we learn to pray wholeheartedly in a quiet place, walk with you joyfully so that our hearts will no longer delight in evil or indulge in impurities. We then will not dishonor others, will not be self-seeking, will not be easily angered and will keep no record of wrong. We will not delight in evil but will rejoice with the truth. We will protect, always trust, always hope and always persevere. We will have mercy and unfailing love. We can love unconditionally because you first loved us in this way: you shed your blood on the cross for us and bought us at a price.

Holy Spirit, please work in our hearts. Please wake us up from self- indulgence, self-righteousness and futile thinking. May your shower of blessings come to nourish our souls so that we can put off our old self, rebuild our faith and love in the Lord. We will no longer be ignorant and will be able to live a life honoring God and benefitting others. Let us walk together in steady steps with hope and patience, helping each other, “forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead” and press on to live for the Lord.

Holy Spirit, come to illuminate us again. May our light shine in this dark age of distress from the pandemic and social turmoil; may “the darkness shall turn to dawning and the dawning to noonday bright.” Enable us to show mercy to the hungry and satisfy the needy. Let the body of Christ, the church, be a garden of abundant grace and a fountain of unending water so that all who come can be satisfied, be built up and live out the power of faith, hope, and love.

Our sincere prayers are in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen!
